Raindrop takes a different approach than flowing patterns. Our smiths forge-weld the 15N20 and 1080 into a billet, press dimples into the surface, then flatten it back down. Grinding to the flat opens each dimple into a ring of circles. Depth controls how many rings show, and even spacing is what makes the pattern read as intentional.

The acid etch darkens the 1080 while the nickel-rich 15N20 stays bright, revealing the rings.

Book-matching the handle means splitting one piece of olive wood and opening it like a book, so the grain on one side mirrors the other. It's borrowed from furniture and instrument making, and it only works if the cut is clean and both halves line up when they go on the tang.

Olive wood is dense and naturally oily, which makes it cut differently than most hardwoods. We shape each scale by hand, pin it, and sand through progressive grits until the grain shows without the surface feeling rough.

Blade Performance

1080 carries roughly 0.80% carbon. It hardens predictably and stays tough, so the edge dents or rolls under impact instead of chipping out. That's what you want when the blade finds bone during field dressing.

15N20 adds nickel and a finer grain, bringing the edge to a keener point. The pair holds up through an animal and sharpens back on a stone in minutes.

The 4-inch length is a practical hunting size, with enough reach to open a deer, short enough to control around joints without repositioning constantly.

At 6 mm, the handle stock is thicker than most knives in this size range. That gives you more to hold onto, which reduces hand fatigue during long butchery sessions and helps when your fingers are cold or gloved.

Both steels are carbon steels. Easy sharpening, mandatory oiling.

Handle & Grip

Olive wood is dense, oily by nature, and takes a fine finish without heavy lacquer. Those natural oils give it some water resistance and a smooth, warm feel that synthetics don't quite reproduce.

The 6 mm thickness fills your palm properly. Thin scales can feel sharp-edged during extended use; this one distributes pressure across your whole hand. Combined with the even 4-inch handle length, the knife stays where you put it.

Honest note: wood needs a little attention. Olive handles humidity better than most hardwoods, but wipe it dry after wet work and oil it a few times a year. What you get in return is book-matched grain that no manufactured material can copy, and color that deepens with handling.

Sheath & Carry

A fitted buffalo leather sheath is included. Buffalo hide is thicker and denser than standard cowhide, so it holds its shape through seasons of belt carry and brush contact.

The sheath covers the edge fully and rides on your belt for one-handed access. Store the knife outside the leather between hunts; tanned hide holds moisture, and that affects both carbon steel and wood.

Knife Care

Blood and stomach contents are acidic and will mark carbon steel overnight. Wipe the blade during the work, then wash and dry it completely afterward.

Apply a thin coat of mineral oil or blade oil before storage, and keep the knife dry and out of its sheath. Rub food-safe oil into the olive wood every few months to keep it from drying. Sharpen on a whetstone when the edge stops biting, and avoid powered grinders; the heat softens the temper permanently. A gray patina develops over time and slows further rust.
