8-Inch BoneFire Damascus Bowie Knife with Black, Red and White Micarta Handle
This Damascus Bowie knife measures 8 inches with a 3.5 -inch blade on a 4.5 -inch handle. It carries the Bowie profile in a size you can wear on a belt all day rather than one that lives on a wall.
The blade is forged from 15N20 and 1080 high-carbon steels in a BoneFire pattern. Black, red, and white Micarta scales with a black fiber lining give it a bold, banded handle that grips harder as your hands get wet. A buffalo skin sheath is included. It suits Bowie collectors, campers, and outdoor users.

Handmade Craftsmanship
Our smiths stack 15N20 and 1080 into a billet, forge-weld the layers at welding heat, and work the steel until the BoneFire figure flows across it. An acid etch darkens the 1080 and leaves the nickel-bearing 15N20 bright.
Three-colour Micarta is the most demanding version of the material to shape. It is built from alternating layers of dyed fabric cured in resin, so every cut into the contour exposes a different band. With three colours rather than two, an uneven pass shows immediately as crooked striping along the handle.
We shape the scales in stages, checking the banding as it develops, then pin them to the tang and sand through progressive grits until the transition under your palm disappears.
Blade Performance
1080 carries roughly 0.80 percent carbon. Bladesmiths have used it for generations because it hardens predictably and absorbs shock rather than chipping. The edge dents or rolls under impact instead of breaking out, and a rolled edge can be corrected in the field.
15N20 adds nickel and a finer grain, refining the edge and keeping the steel bright through etching. Together they cut cleanly and sharpen back on a stone in minutes.
At 3.5 inches on 5 mm stock, this blade is short and stout. That favours control and durability over reach. You get precision for carving, camp tasks, and game work, with enough spine for light batoning on small wood.
Worth being clear about what this is not. A 3.5 -inch Bowie will not chop or clear brush the way a 10 or 12-inch blade does. It carries the shape, not the chopping mass.
Handle and Grip
Micarta is layered fabric saturated with resin and cured under pressure. It does not absorb water, swell in humidity, crack in cold, or rot, and it requires no oiling.
The three-colour layering shows as bands along the contoured edges, and it makes the knife easy to spot when you set it down in undergrowth. That is a small practical benefit of a bright handle that only matters once you have lost a dark one.
At 4.5 inches, the handle is longer than the blade, so balance sits behind the edge. The knife feels controlled rather than tip-heavy, and you can choke up right behind the ricasso for fine work without crowding the blade.
Ideal Uses
- Collecting and display, given the recognisable Bowie profile
- Camp food preparation and general cutting
- Bushcraft carving, notching, and light batoning
- Skinning and field dressing mid-size game
- Everyday carry as a compact fixed blade
- Gifting to knife enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers
Sheath and Carry
A buffalo skin leather sheath is included. Buffalo hide is thicker and denser than standard cowhide, so it protects the edge and holds its shape through years of belt carry.
The knife is small enough to ride all day comfortably, which is the main argument for a Bowie this size. Store the blade outside the leather between uses, since a tanned hide holds moisture against carbon steel.

Knife Care
Wipe the blade clean after each use and dry it completely. Sap, food acids, and moisture all mark carbon steel if left sitting.
Apply a thin coat of mineral oil or blade oil before storage and keep the knife dry and outside its sheath. The Micarta handle needs nothing beyond warm water and mild soap. Sharpen on a whetstone when the edge stops biting, and avoid powered grinders, which build enough heat to soften the temper permanently.
Why Choose Centuries Crafts?
We forge each blade and shape each handle by hand. Materials are chosen before the work starts, and every knife is checked before it ships. A Bowie carries a lot of history in its shape, and it deserves to be built properly rather than approximated.
