8.5-Inch Handmade Damascus Fixed Blade Knife with Camel Bone Handle
This Damascus hunting knife pairs a 4-inch blade with a 4.5 -inch handle for 8.5 -inches overall. More handle than blade means the balance sits in your palm, and that is what you want when the work is precise rather than heavy.
The blade is forged from 15N20 and 1080 high-carbon steels in a BoneFire pattern. The handle is camel bone with a black fiber lining, a material that runs from pale cream through ivory tones and carries its own fine grain. A buffalo skin sheath is included. It is suited to camping, outdoor utility, and collectors who appreciate traditional natural materials and handmade craftsmanship.

Handmade Craftsmanship
The billet begins as stacked 15N20 and 1080. Our smiths forge-weld the layers at heat, then work the steel until the BoneFire figure appears. An acid etch darkens the 1080 and leaves the nickel-bearing 15N20 bright, producing the contrast across the blade.
Bone is worked differently from horn or wood. It is harder and more brittle than horn, so it chips rather than warps if it is rushed on a belt, and it has to be shaped slowly with light pressure. Drilling for pins is the part where a scale is most likely to crack, which is why it is done carefully and in stages.
Camel bone is denser than most bone used for knife handles, which is the reason it is favoured for this work. It takes a fine polish and holds it, and the surface develops a warm tone with years of handling rather than staying uniformly white.
Blade Performance
1080 sits at roughly 0.80 percent carbon. It hardens predictably and offers toughness and durability during demanding outdoor cutting tasks.
15N20 contributes nickel and a tighter grain, bringing the edge to a keener point. The steel combination provides a durable working edge that can be maintained with regular sharpening.
At 4 inches, the blade offers a balance of reach and control for detailed outdoor cutting tasks. Its compact length makes it easier to guide through controlled cuts without frequent repositioning.
The 5 mm spine gives you something to lean on during a hard cut without the blade wedging in the material.
Handle and Grip
Camel bone is dense and hard, and it takes a polish that few natural materials match. It stays cool rather than warm in the hand, which is the one honest difference from horn, though it never gets as cold as a bare metal handle would.
At 4.5 inches, the handle is longer than the blade, which drops the balance point into your palm. The knife follows controlled hand movement rather than pulling heavily forward, which supports detailed cutting and general outdoor tasks.
The black fiber liner runs as a thin dark line between the pale bone and the tang, and the contrast is deliberate. On a light coloured handle, a dark liner defines the edge of the scale rather than letting it fade into the steel.
Bone needs less maintenance than horn but benefits from the same occasional oiling, which keeps it from drying and helps the polish last.
Ideal Uses
- Camping and outdoor utility tasks
- Collection and display
- Camp food preparation and general cutting
- Bushcraft and light wood preparation
- Detailed cutting tasks
- Gifting for knife and handmade craftsmanship enthusiasts
Sheath and Carry
A buffalo skin leather sheath is included. Buffalo hide is thicker and denser than standard cowhide and holds its shape through seasons of belt friction and weather.
The included sheath is designed to help protect the blade during storage and transport. Store the blade outside the leather between uses, since tanned hide traps humidity that affects both the carbon steel and the bone scales.

Knife Care
Wipe and clean the blade after use, then dry it thoroughly to help protect the carbon steel from moisture and surface oxidation.
Dry the knife completely and apply a thin coat of mineral oil or blade oil before storage. Keep it dry and out of its sheath. Wipe the bone clean and treat it with a small amount of oil once or twice a year to keep the polish and prevent drying. Sharpen on a whetstone when the edge stops biting, and avoid powered grinders, which build heat that softens the temper permanently.
Why Choose Centuries Crafts?
We forge each blade and fit each handle by hand. Bone is slower and less forgiving to work than horn or wood, and we shape it in stages rather than rushing it. Materials are chosen before the work begins, and every knife is checked before it ships.
