Handmade Damascus Jungle Skinning Knife: 7" Bonfire Pattern with Turquoise Marble Handle
This handmade Damascus jungle skinning knife is small on purpose. The 3.5-inch blade is forged from 15N20 and 1080 in a bonfire pattern, and the broad, curved belly is shaped to part hide from meat without tearing either.
The handle sets it apart. Turquoise marbled resin with a black fiber liner gives it color you won't find on a standard field knife; bright blue-green with white veining that runs differently on every piece. At 7 inches overall, it works for hunters processing game in wet country, and it displays as well as it performs.

Handmade Craftsmanship
The billet starts as stacked 15N20 and 1080. Our smiths forge-weld the layers, then work the hot steel to raise the bonfire figure; flame-like patterns that flow rather than run in straight lines. The acid etch darkens the 1080 while the nickel in the 15N20 stays bright, and that contrast is the whole visual effect.
Grinding a broad-bellied skinner is more demanding than it looks. There's more surface across the curve, and any unevenness shows immediately on a wide blade.
The resin handle is cast and cured before shaping, then worked down to the tang by hand. Because the marbling runs through the entire block rather than sitting on the surface, sanding and polishing reveal a different pattern on every scale. We finish it smooth and seal the transitions so nothing catches your palm.
Blade Performance
1080 holds roughly 0.80% carbon. It's a proven blade steel that hardens predictably and stays tough under pressure, denting rather than chipping when the edge finds bone.
15N20 adds nickel and a finer grain, bringing the edge to a genuinely keen point. That matters here more than raw toughness does, because skinning is precision work; a hundred controlled cuts along a hide line. A dull edge tears the pelt and doubles your time.
This steel combination sharpens back quickly on a stone, so you can restore the edge partway through an animal instead of finishing with a blade that fights you.
The 3.5-inch length keeps the tip close to your hand, and the deep belly does the cutting. That's the design logic behind every skinner: let the curve work while the point stays clear of the meat.
Handle & Grip
Resin is a practical choice for humid country, and that's the point of a jungle skinner. It doesn't absorb blood or water, doesn't swell, and won't crack when temperatures swing. Wood needs oiling and attention. This needs a wipe.
The 5 mm scales fill your hand without bulk, and at 3.5 inches the handle matches the blade exactly. Balance sits right at your grip, so the knife pivots where you steer it rather than pulling forward.
There's a practical benefit to the color too. A bright turquoise handle is easy to spot when you set the knife down in undergrowth or leaf litter; a small thing until you've lost a dark-handled knife in the field.
Ideal Uses
- Skinning deer, hogs, and mid-size game
- Caping and detail work around legs and joints
- Trimming and light butchery at camp
- Field dressing in wet or humid conditions
- Fishing and general cutting where control matters
- Gifting to hunters, and display for collectors of unusual handle materials
Sheath & Carry
A fitted buffalo leather sheath is included. Buffalo hide is denser than standard cowhide and stands up to brush, moisture, and belt wear better over seasons of carry.
The sheath covers the edge fully, and the knife's compact size means it rides all day comfortably. Store the blade outside the leather between uses; tanned hide traps humidity, and humidity on carbon steel becomes rust.

Knife Care
Blood and fat are acidic and will spot carbon steel overnight. Wipe the blade as you work, then wash and dry it completely when you finish.
Apply a thin coat of mineral oil or blade oil before storage, and keep the knife in a dry place outside its sheath. The resin handle needs nothing beyond soap and water; no oiling, no conditioning. Sharpen on a whetstone when the edge stops gliding through hide, and avoid powered grinders, which build heat that softens the temper permanently.
Why Choose Centuries Crafts?
We forge every blade and shape every handle by hand. Materials get selected before work begins, and each knife is checked for fit and finish before it ships. A skinning knife earns its keep in small details, so that's where the attention goes.
