7-Inch Damascus Steel Skinning Knife with Turquoise Marbled Handle
This handmade Damascus skinning knife is built small on purpose. The 3.5 -inch blade carries a deep curved belly, and that curve is what does the work of separating hide from meat without cutting through either.
The steel is forged from 15N20 and 1080 in a BoneFire pattern. The handle is turquoise marbled resin with a black fiber lining, bright blue-green shot through with white veining that runs differently on every piece. A buffalo skin sheath is included. It suits hunters who finish their own pelts and collectors drawn to unusual handle materials.

Handmade Craftsmanship
The billet starts as stacked 15N20 and 1080. Our smiths forge-weld the layers, then work the hot steel to raise the BoneFire figure, flame-like patterns that flow rather than running in straight lines. The acid etch darkens the 1080 while the nickel in the 15N20 stays bright, and that contrast is the whole visual effect.
Grinding a broad-bellied skinner is more demanding than it looks. There is more surface across the curve than on a straight blade, and any unevenness in the bevel shows immediately along that arc.
The resin handle is cast and cured as a solid block before shaping, then worked down to the tang by hand. Because the marbling runs through the entire block rather than sitting on the surface, sanding and polishing reveal a different pattern on every scale.
Blade Performance
1080 holds roughly 0.80 percent carbon. It hardens predictably and stays tough, denting rather than chipping when the edge finds bone or cartilage.
15N20 adds nickel and a finer grain, bringing the edge to a genuinely keen point. That refinement matters more here than raw toughness does, because skinning is precision work. A hundred controlled cuts along a hide line, not five heavy ones. A keen edge parts the membrane cleanly. A dull one tears the pelt and doubles your time.
The pairing sharpens back on a stone in minutes, so a mid-animal touch-up is practical rather than a chore.
At 3.5 inches, the tip stays close to your hand. You can feel exactly where the point sits without watching it, which is what lets you follow a hide line around a leg joint without punching into the meat underneath.
Handle and Grip
The handle is resin with a marbled turquoise finish. Resin does not absorb blood or water, does not swell, and will not crack when temperatures swing. Wood needs oiling and attention. This needs a wipe.
At 3.5 inches, the handle matches the blade exactly, so the balance point sits right at your grip. The knife pivots where you steer it rather than pulling forward, which is the whole logic behind how skinners are proportioned.
There is a practical benefit to the colour as well. A bright turquoise handle is easy to spot when you set the knife down in leaf litter or long grass. That sounds trivial until you have lost a dark-handled knife in the field.
The 5 mm thickness fills your hand without bulk during a long processing session.
Ideal Uses
- Skinning deer, hogs, and mid-size game
- Caping and detail work around legs and joints
- Trimming and hide preparation
- Fishing tasks and fine cutting
- Everyday carry as a compact fixed blade
- Gifting to hunters and display for collectors
Sheath and Carry
A buffalo skin leather sheath is included. Buffalo hide is denser than standard cowhide and stands up to brush, moisture, and belt wear across seasons.
At 7 inches, the knife rides comfortably all day without pulling at your belt. Store the blade outside the leather between uses, since tanned hide traps humidity and carbon steel does not forgive that.

Knife Care
Blood and fat are acidic and will spot carbon steel overnight. Wipe the blade as you work, then wash and dry it completely when you finish.
Apply a thin coat of mineral oil or blade oil before storage and keep the knife in a dry place outside its sheath. The resin handle needs nothing beyond warm water and mild soap, with no oiling schedule to keep. Sharpen on a whetstone when the edge stops gliding through hide, and avoid powered grinders, which build heat that softens the temper permanently.
Why Choose Centuries Crafts?
We forge every blade and shape every handle by hand. Materials are selected before the work begins, and each knife is checked for fit and finish before it ships. A skinning knife earns its keep in small details, so that is where the attention goes.
