Handmade Craftsmanship

80CrV2 contains chromium and vanadium alongside roughly 0.80 percent carbon. The vanadium is the interesting part. It refines the grain structure during heat treatment, and a finer grain produces a tougher blade that resists chipping and cracking under load.

Grinding a 10-inch blade evenly takes patience. There is a long distance for the bevel to travel, and any wobble in the grind shows immediately across that much flat surface.

The heavy-duty steel guard is fitted between the blade and handle. On a survival knife, a guard is a functional part rather than decoration. It stops your hand travelling forward onto the edge when a cut binds unexpectedly, or a thrust lands harder than planned.

Rosewood scales are shaped, fitted, and sanded through progressive grits until the transitions disappear under your palm. Because the wood is natural, the grain runs differently on every knife.

Blade Performance

The argument for 80CrV2 in a survival knife is toughness. A blade this size gets used for chopping, batoning, prying, and clearing, and every one of those tasks punishes a brittle edge. This steel dents or rolls under impact instead of chipping out, and a rolled edge can be straightened in the field.

Edge retention is good rather than exceptional, and that is the deliberate trade. In a survival context, a blade you can resharpen on a river rock beats one that holds longer but fights you when it finally dulls.

Ten inches of blade delivers genuine chopping authority. The weight sits out front and carries through a swing, so you guide the blade rather than muscling it. That is why a large Bowie clears brush and processes camp wood better than any shorter knife.

Handle & Grip

Premium rosewood is dense, hard-wearing, and naturally oily. Those oils give it real water resistance and a grip that stays secure rather than slick when your hands are wet.

The 5-inch handle gives a full grip with room to shift. Slide back for maximum leverage on a chopping stroke, or move forward against the guard for controlled cutting. On a 10-inch blade, you need both positions, and a cramped handle would force just one.

The steel guard also gives your index finger a positive stop, so you always know where your hand sits relative to the edge without looking.

Rosewood needs occasional attention. Wipe it dry after wet work and rub in a food-safe oil a few times a year to keep the grain from drying out.

A genuine leather belt sheath is included. Leather stays quiet against gear and moulds to the blade over time, unlike a hard sheath that stays rigid.

The sheath covers the full edge, which is essential with 10 inches of exposed steel. For long-term storage, and survival gear spends most of its life in storage, take the knife out of the leather first. Tanned hide holds humidity, and rust waiting for you when you finally need the blade is the worst possible outcome.

Knife Care

Wipe the blade clean after every use and dry it completely. 80CrV2 is carbon steel, so sap, blood, and moisture will mark it if left overnight.

Apply a thin coat of mineral oil or blade oil before storage and keep the knife dry and out of its sheath. Check stored gear every few months, since a survival knife that sits untouched for two years should still come out ready. Sharpen on a whetstone when the edge stops biting, and avoid powered grinders, which build enough heat to soften the temper. A gray patina is normal and slows further oxidation.
